What An Evaluation Includes
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically spans 4-6 weeks.

Virtual parent interview (60 minutes).

In-person testing
6 to 8 hours of testing, typically across 2 to 3 appointments.

Coordination with teachers, tutors, and outside specialists as needed.

Feedback appointment
Virtual feedback appointment (60 to 90 minutes).

A written report with findings and recommendations.

Follow-up
Follow-up consultation and collaboration with school and outside providers as needed.
Additional interviews, behavioral rating scales, classroom observations, and other services may also be incorporated to support each individualized evaluation.
About Dr. Shauna Dixon
I am a clinical and pediatric neuropsychologist with over ten years of experience. I specialize in providing comprehensive evaluations to children, adolescents, and young adults with learning and neurodevelopmental differences. Families come to me for a variety of reasons, such as:
- My child has trouble focusing and staying organized; does she have ADHD?
- It seems like my child has lost his confidence and motivation at school; what is going on?
- How can I help my child who is struggling with reading and writing?
My goal is to provide insight and understanding about how a child thinks and learns, so we can create individualized supports to optimize their learning and development.
My experience spans over fifteen years as an educator and psychologist. During my training as a school psychologist, I worked as a teacher’s assistant in a public school as well as a school for children with autism and developmental disabilities. As a psychologist, I have worked and trained in schools, hospitals, and private practice. I also enjoy teaching, supervising, and staying current with research and best-practices as an adjunct professor and board member of the New York Neuropsychology Group.

What is a neuropsychological evaluation?
A neuropsychological evaluation is a way of systematically and objectively measuring how the brain processes information. Each evaluation is customized and can include assessment of a wide range of areas, such as:

How long is the process?
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation typically spans 4 to 6 weeks. The feedback appointment is usually scheduled approximately 1 to 2 weeks after the final testing session, with the finalized report completed within 3 to 4 weeks after testing concludes.
Do you accept insurance?
No, Dr. Dixon does not accept insurance. However, she will provide the necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Invoices are issued once testing is completed and full payment has been made.
Some insurance companies may offer reimbursement, although there are no guarantees. If you are interested in seeking reimbursement for future services, it is advisable to consult with your insurance company before scheduling appointments to fully understand your potential costs. You can provide your insurance company with Dr. Dixon’s NPI and the expected CPT codes to get an estimate of the services that may be reimbursed and at what percentage.

Do you accept Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE)?
Yes. Dr. Dixon regularly works with and contracts with school districts to conduct Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs). North Shore Neuropsychology maintains the required professional and liability insurance coverage and can provide certificates of insurance that meet NYSIR requirements.
